Peace of Mind

Post by BigGunna »

I got a call from my sister today and we started talking about personal safety. Needless to say I'm a little worried cause she was the one who brought up the subject. I know she's a tough girl, her freind told me once she dropped a guy and some other chick on their (buttocks) with the kick I taught her (I was so proud :D) Since my b... I mean I'm 500 mi away I got semi paranoid and went online shopping RIGHT AWAY. Then I ordered her up some pepper spray and a 300k Stun Gun (100,000 volts pppppfffffff that's like...well I don't know what it's like but 300k is like at least 3 times that) I would have gotten her a 650k batton but that thing is the size of a caddle prod.

Would that count as a Christmas gift? I don't want her to be like " oh lookie what I got from my brother!!! No... the less crazy one" Actually she would enjoy it though, when I moved her to down SoCal there I gave her my knife and she never leaves home without it. At least I might be able to sleep (another hour) tonight.

Girls do you feel kind of scurred when your out alone? Is a knife, pepper spray, and a stun gun,
A) good for now
B) as goldie locks would say "Just riiiiiiiiight"
or C) a tinsy, itty bitty, so small you wont notice, much?

And guys I was researching these things, and they're pretty cool! Would I be a considered a lesser wimp if I used one of these in say... a (nother) bar fight? Or should I just stick with a sharp and pointy (prefferably large and blunt) object?

That's a difficult question with a simple answer.

Don't get in a fight.

I don't know why I didn't notice this topic in Dec.

I totally believe in female empowerment when it comes to weapons.
I worked the late shift at a casino in North Las Vegas and then had to return to my house where I lived alone. I carry a knife and mace. Additionally, I'm a green belt in tae kwon doe, and regularly do kickboxing for self defense. I also believe in carrying a hand gun, if I ever lived in a big city again once I'm 21 I would buy one.
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have a gun.
Thank god I never got attacked, but I feel better knowing I was prepared should it have happened. Now a days I just consider my brother to be my means of defense, he owns more weapons than any one I know...

Anyhow, a stun gun is a cool present, I wouldn't mind getting one. :)

I personally don't feel the need to protect myself here in North Dakota, which I should probably be more concerned with, but it just doesn't seem worth it. When I am at home though, I usually make sure that I'm with a group of friends or I have my bigger, stronger, brother with me. I guess I should consider carrying around something to defend myself, but until i'm living on my own and go to places on my own more often...I really don't see the benefit.

With the fighting thing I'm not really saying that allot of people actually want to fight me, for some odd reason they don't. Something about my calm waiting to explode demenor or something. I should probably clarrify this thought . There's no honor in a fight. It doesn't make you more manly or something, it just is something that happens when emotions run high. If one does break out though I'm always ready to go, especially in matters of chivalry, why just ask Mikey. :P But I'm lazy I don't want to get all winded and what not. It's kind of funny, If a fight does break out I seem to get the short straw. I usually get dibs on the two biggest, and ugliest guys of the bunch. So I actually do have to use my charm and witt most times to overt any problems.

But as far as the stun gun goes, I got her some other stuff for gifts so it was truly just a peace of mind device for me. But apperently she scurred her boyfreind and other male freinds with it. Not like she was going to use it on them or something but you need to regularly test it. It's really loud and you can see the jumping spark from like a mile away. Now supposedly this voltage can incapacitate a drunken football player, but does it really work??? I've never been stuned or maced or anything like that and I'm not going to do something stupid to get into that situation (unless it's safely pre-approved). But I must tell you I'm curious like a little kitty about this little (well maybe not little) apparatus...Stay tuned.

Hey buddy, when you come down to visit we'll pick up your sister and I'll zap your ass with it in the safety of my own back yard so that you'll only fall on grass not cement. Once you're done spasming and you can talk, your sister and I will start to ask you questions of how if felt so that we can get the most accurate, on the spot, info from the test results. :P ;)

Eric, I'll take it if you'll take it....assuming you don't need to go to a hospital afterwards...

EDIT: or better yet, I'll take it if Luke takes it!

alright as the resident expert in electricity here we go

300 k, I'm not sure thats volts your talking because minimum leathal voltage is 30v.
yeah thats it just 30, not 30 k but 30. That does assume your soaking wet and other such nasty conditions cause its the amps that damage not the volts, lethal dose for amps, 1 amp... now thats just the theory bull

in practice most of my division has taken an approxamatly 500 volt shocks and lived, knocks you on your ass burns the area you made contact with the wires and hurts like a bitch, I've taken standard household wallsocket voltage before, yeah didn't hurt that much but I woke up in a nasty position, yeah i felt like I was rebooted instant black then instant vision only I'm looking at the cealing now and a half hour has passed

we have one crew member who has taken a little under 5000 v and lived, only one thats pretty much enough to kill you under normal everyday conditions. the 300k sounds more like a wattage if thats volts I'd expect to be killed if I got hit

course volts aren't jack its amps that kill ya and most of these devices are current limited so it doesn't matter what number they slap down on it. It might not be any better an ass roaster
if you can throw up a link to the particular model I bet I could tell you exactly what it will do without having to let shawn shock you

NO! I won't have it! There will be no links to any zapper model since I want to zap eri....err, I mean I want to do a semi-professional field study.

Heh heh, no actually reading this I remembered when I got hit by a 250v shock while changing a light bulb in the campground. I was up in the tractor bucket standing on a ladder to be able to reach the light bulb. I disconnected 1 side of the housing so that the enclosure would swing away and I could have access directly to the light bulb.

As I was removing the old light bulb my hand holding the housing slipped and my wrist came in contact with the housing. Normally this isn't an issue since the housing should not be electrically charged, however there was a short in the system that made it HOT! When I got hit, I was fortunate enough to be holding on, very securely, to the ladder and was not shot back 10 feet from the ladder with a 20 foot fall to boot. However, after spasming and yanking my hand free from the housing I proceeded to make loud whooping sounds as if your favorite long-shot football team had just won the superbowl. "Whoo, yeah, oh yeah, whoo, holy shit, whoo, yeah, whoo!"

After hearing this a group of Asian were looking at me like I was some weird zoo type attraction, and that the sound I made was the song cry of death. If this doesn't help you, imagine a deer in headlights. My Dad then asked what was up, and in a frazzled voice I said, "Power....on....shut off park." My Dad instantly knew what had happened, so after getting down on the ground, I sat and rested while he shot up and turned off the park.

It was a funny experience that I was reminded of because of DarkSide's story. :)

Supposedly they are very breif burst using low amprage. I looked at a schematin of the inside once, it's almost like the coil pack in a car. It takes energy from the batteries and ampifies it.

Yeah 300k...300,000 V

I almost got one of these though

yeah I wouldn't recomend letting shawn shock you with that. that should fuck you up pretty nasty, have him zap you with the 100k and then after you kill him, be glad you didn't take the 300k. yeah that would knock em flat and probably keep em down long enough to give a good taunting and a few strategic kicks while thier down

I give it a just right, I wouldn't want to take that, and all I do all day is get my ass shocked

Does the amount of Jager you have in your system effect how lethal an electric shock can be?
