A Perfect Circle - eMOTIVe

So one of my favorite bands, A Perfect Circle, released a new album today, a cover album of political songs from artists like John Lennon, Marvin Gaye, Depeche Mode, and others. It's called eMOTIVe. They will be releasing a DVD in two weeks with all of their msuci videos and some other stuff, that will be called aMOTION.

It's an interesting album, it seems like Maynard and company wanted to take the songs and make them sound very different from the originals, very moody, very dark. I think the ablum would have benifited a lot from more guitar-drum-bass arrangements, as most of the tracks seem underproduced and rushed. Especially Peace Love & Understanding. If you want to hear a great version of that song, look for Audioslave's live version from Seattle with Maynard on backing vocals, I can send it to you if you want (I was there, it rocked, 'nuff said).

The cover of the album is holographic, so it's friggin' awesome! It's all gloom and doom, and the album cover represents that well.

The album isn't nearly as good as Thirteenth Step, but it's good, and I'm sure I'll be listening to it a lot in the coming months. Standout tracks are John Lennon's "Imagine," Crucifix's "Annihilation," and one of only two original songs, "Passive."

New Tool album on the way, this album will hold me over until then.

I also picked up NOW 17 today. Hey, what can I say, I love music!
